Acting Class Topics: For a detailed definition of terms click here

- In terms of the Acting Class, what are some of the activities that can happen?
The first ten minutes of the class consist of a physical, vocal and diction warm-up, which is a very important habit for young actor/ actresses to practice. The following ten-fifteen minutes are spent working on concentration exercises; which is accomplished by playing a variety of theater games. Most of these theater games are done with the whole group and they help develop concentration, energy, self-expression, spontaneity and teamwork. These are great life skills as well! The next fifteen minutes are spent on imagination work and getting participants more comfortable expressing thoughts and ideas within the group. This also is a very important component of acting training as well as acting terminology work and how each child can apply it to become a skilled performer. The last fifteen-twenty minutes are spent on each individual child sharing about themselves with the other children. This is can be done through imagination work, actual stories, and group/initial improvisational work. The main objective being to cultivate, affirm and challenge each young person to grow. A major way to accomplish all these goals is primarily through Improvisation exercises. (Which participants love)! Back to Top
- Do you put on a show at the end of the session?
At the end of the class session participants will put on a showing to demonstrate what they have been working on! While we don't put on a whole show(which generally takes many hours/weeks of prep) We do offer a mini performance opportunity for family and friends in a comfortable affirming environment. - If you don't put on a show, what does the showing consist of?

- Apart from developing skills and having fun, how is your Program going to help my child?
Performing Arts Programs offer children several benefits on several levels:
- Performing Arts Programs' classes provide a structured group environment for children to develop self confidence, self esteem, self worth, freedom of speech, freedom of expression, validation and support for ideas (which, can be very different than our present organized educational system which judges a participant through scores/grades).
- Performing Arts Programs' classes, offer children the opportunity to use their imagination and learn how that can be a powerful and life-changing tool, especially when focused and pointed on a specific task.
- Performing Arts Programs' classes validate and affirm individual choice and movement,(doing something). These actions in themselves are not judged but rather encouraged. We believe that the greatest achievements and discoveries in life quite often can happen in an unexpected moment of exploration, the same principal holds true for the actor.
- Performing Arts Programs' staff while not trained as therapists or counselors have seen wonderful things happen to young people as a result of participating in the Program. We have seen a great increase in areas of talent development, self confidence, self esteem, self expression and self control. So many children as a result of the Program, have come out of their shell. And, children who don't have a shell, have learned how to bring it down a notch, at the more appropriate times!
- Performing Arts Programs' classes are alot of fun!!
- Why should I choose Performing Arts Programs over another children's theater program?
- Quality/Care/Concern--We offer the highest quality creative staff that not only have skills and experience but love working with children! We care about your child's development and well-being. While our program is Performing Arts based, we equally concerned about your child's creative/personal development. - Progressive programs-For the more serious minded participants, we offer more advanced programs that expose the young people to local professional performing artists as well as NYC/Broadway performing artists.
